OUR CLASSES
We offer a wide variety of classes for all ages
Jazz Ballet/ Jazz FUNky
Jazz Ballet, also known as Jazz FUN-ky is the most popular course given at the HDC - Sharon Weiner artistic director is the main instructor-each dance class offers a wide range of fun and upbeat movement- through “popular” dance music; children learn class discipline, listening skills, coordination skills, left and right skills, patterns in movement, and basic jazz dance technique.
Since Ballet is the basis of most all dance training, the students will also be introduced to several basic concepts of Ballet technique and vocabulary.
Also in the jazz program, students will be exposed to many styles including Lyrical, Broadway, and fun “popular” styles of dance. (Light hip hop- funky etc)
Baby Jazz Ballet
BABY JAZZ BALLET is a popular program and is especially designed for those in nursery or kindergarten classes.
It offers an excellent variety of ballet related songs and games, the use of costumes as well as visual aids which help to create a positive and fun way to learn ballet. Imagine a world of music and natural movement that will strengthen a child’s confidence. A world that will capture your child’s imagination and develop his or her inherent creativity.
All of this can be done through dance in a fun atmosphere, in which a child can flourish as an individual.
Stretching, strengthening, and coordination exercises, especially designed for little bodies; development of motor skills (hop, skip, leap, step slide); creative movement (hop like a frog, fly like a butterfly, curtsy like a princess, bow like a prince); rhythm and counting; accompanied by music.
The thirty week program provides not only the classical basics but also introduces theatre and character dance which helps prepare the children for their annual end of year performance.
Classical Ballet
The Cecchetti method is one of the main training techniques of Classical Ballet.
The Cecchetti method is a strict program that enforces planned exercise routines for each day of the week. The program ensures that each part of the body is worked evenly by combining different types of steps into planned routines.
Each exercise is performed to the right as well as to the left, starting one side one week, followed by the other side the next week. The Cecchetti method of ballet strives to train its dancers by reducing ballet to an exact science.
Contemporary
Contemporary is a genre of concert dance that employs compositional philosophy, rather than choreography, to guide a choreographed movement.
Street Funk
A mix of Funky Jazz, and light Hip Hop is a dance style, usually danced to hip hop music that evolved from hip hop culture. The first dance associated with hip hop was break dancing.
While break dancing consists primarily of moves executed close to the ground, the majority of hip hop moves are done standing up.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz, as well as acrobatics and modern dancing techniques. It is usually performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics of the song. This style concentrates on an individual approach and expressiveness of such emotions as love, joy, hurt, or anger. It does not concentrate on the dancer’s precision of movement. Music for this style may consist of many genres including pop, rock, and hip- hop.
It is very passionate and can tell a story through movement.

Tap Dance
Dancers wear shoes which have been equipped with metal plates. As the dancer moves, the plates click against the dance floor, creating a characteristic tapping sound.
Tappers can create a variety of percussive rhythms with their feet by tapping, sliding, and clicking the metal plates.
